What are the technological advances in CNC Turning?

Just like in any of the industries and sectors you can mention, the CNC industry has really experienced lots of technological advancements which has made everyone in the industry to keep him on toes.  The last twenty years have been characterized with steady developments in this technology and anyone who has not been updating himself must be very much behind in terms of ideas. It is however worth noting that even though there have been great improvements in the sector, there has been very slow and reluctant adoption of this technology. One of the reasons behind this is the fact the aerospace industry is a very sensitive industry and people really don’t want to gamble around. Some of the technologies of the olden days were well researched and tested and people still believe in them up to date.

CNC turning centres have developed new technologies that are digitally used in replacement of the many manual operations that are highly employed in today’s aerospace world. Computer Aided Design (CAD) is undisputedly being successfully used in all the sectors including civil engineering and architectural designing among others. This reduces most cases of inaccuracy and also helps reduce the wage bill as most of the things being manually done can be done by the new computer technologies. In the CNC machining, the times of cycles are highly reduced by the introduction of this new technology i.e. CAD.

There is more increased accuracy whenever you decide to use the new technology in comparison to when you are using the traditional methods. The model is accurately modelled without using lots of guess work and probability. You just get exactly that which you were anticipating for. A CAM system has been designed to create a map from the CAD model. The map comes out as approximate series of orientations and points having defined tolerance around the model surfaces of the accurately designed CAD model.

The post processor used in the modern days reformats the series that are generated by CAM thereby giving a result that happens to be exactly part defining that coming from the pre-processed model or rather the CAM approximation together with the Computer Aided Design Model. The data output of this new CNC turning is also known to be part specific rather than machine specific thereby giving very accurate results. Multiple machines and multiple parts can therefore be derived from the generic models produced by the post processor.

There is yet another development that is used by precision engineers in the CNC turning centre. This involves the calculation the positioning of the physical machines and the way they are axed in order to achieve the desired CAM generated orientations as well as points. This is done by the use of the Tool Posture Control (TPC) as well as the Tool Centre Point control (TCP) features that are found within the Computer Aided Design system. All these have been designed by time for the good and efficiency of those working in the aerospace industry. It will be worth it if they
